The legend lives and the phantom will return in a brand new musical and the world’s first ever sequel to the story of the Phantom of the Opera.
Composed by the late, great Peer Raben in his final opus before his death in January this year, Phantom of Paris shines brightly due to its extraordinary power and liveliness. We return to Paris, to the lives of Graf Raoul de Chagny, Christine, and Madame Carla. It is 1910, ten years after the supposed death of the phantom. As well as the original characters, we are joined by Frederic, the son of Christine
Librettists Volker Führer and Axel Schulß smoothly embrace Raben’s music and manage in an incomparable way to tell the amazing story that questions all of the well beloved certainties about Eric, the phantom.
Peer Raben, the man behind the music in many of Fassbinder's classic movies, Florian Moser, and Emanuel Michael Bauer bring their astoundingly emotional melodies and songs that blur the boundaries between tradition and modernity. Within the Phantom of Paris, Peer Raben stayed true to his passion and managed to complete the musical only shortly before he passed away in January 2007. The fact that he will not witness the premiere of his last masterpiece is tragic, but he leaves behind his legacy for his audience.
The project, produced by Portuguese company Jacarandá Edições Artisticas, is confirmed to tour internationally, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Australia, and plans to head to London’s West End in 2009/2010.
“Without melodies, the emotions of the audience wouldn’t have a language. Music and songs are the breeding ground of our fantasy, the only firm basis for the telling of a good story!”
